SERGIO ‘CHECO’ PEREZ

Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez is a Mexican racing driver.
Born in 1990 in Guadalajara, Sergio Perez began competitive karting at the age of six and made the step up to junior formula racing in 2004, winning the 2007 British Formula 3 Championship. Perez moved to the GP2 Series in 2009, finishing second in 2010 while driving for Addax.
In 2011, Perez joined the Sauber Formula 1 Team, and his breakthrough came in 2012 when he claimed his first podium in Malaysia. The following year, he made the move to McLaren, replacing Lewis Hamilton to partner Jenson Button. In 2014, Perez joined Force India, where he earned five podium finishes before the team was rebranded as Racing Point midway through the 2018 season. Perez’s career reached new heights in 2020, finishing fourth in the Drivers’ Championship and taking his first career win at the Sakhir Grand Prix, famously recovering from last place on the opening lap.
In 2021, Perez signed with Red Bull Racing. He won his first race for Red Bull at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix and added further victories in 2022, including the Monaco and Singapore Grands Prix. He finished third in the Drivers’ Championship. In 2023, Perez took additional wins in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan, and finished runner-up in the Drivers’ Championship. With his precision driving, strategic acumen, and unwavering focus, Perez contributed invaluable points and podium finishes to the team's championship campaign.
Over his career, Perez achieved an impressive six race wins, three pole positions, 12 fastest laps, and 39 podiums in Formula 1.
