AFTER THREE COMPLETE SEASONS IN F1, A NEW CHAPTER HAS BEGUN IN 2012 WITH SÉBASTIEN JOINING RED BULL RACING AS THIRD DRIVER ALONGSIDE SEBASTIAN VETTEL AND MARK WEBBER, AS WELL AS TAKING PART IN LE MANS 24 HOURS WITH THE TOYOTA TS030 HYBRID.
In 2010, Sébastien again tackles the season with Scuderia Toro Rosso. Behind the wheel of the STR5, with Ferrari engine, he wants to take advantage of the experience acquired during his first stint in F1 to score even more points. After 19 Grand Prix, he does just that despite several mechanical problems. Like the year before, he scores points at four races: Monaco, Canada, European Grand Prix run on the Valencia street circuit, and Japan. But it’s on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Canada where he has his best result: 8th, after leading the race for one lap. He finishes the year in 16th place with 8 points, three more than his teammate.
The Swiss driver signs on for a third consecutive year with Toro Rosso. 2011 begins well as he signs the 10th quickest time in qualifying for the first Grand Prix, in Australia. He confirms his good form in finishing in 8th place. In Malaysia, he starts from the 6th row before putting in another convincing qualifying performance in China with a 9th place start. He again earns points in Turkey, finishing in 9th place and would find the top ten another five times in the year: Monaco, Canada, Hungary, Italy and Korea. Budapest remains one of Sébastien’s best performances in 2011: starting in 23rd position, he makes his way up to 8th place! These results allow him to finish 15th in the championship with 15 points.
A new chapter began in Sébastien Buemi’s career in 2012. After three complete seasons in F1, he joined Red Bull Racing, defending world champions, as third driver alongside Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. Present at all the races and part of the development team in the Austrian team’s simulator, he is part of a top team in the discipline. Alongside this program, he has also been racing as a factory driver for TOYOTA Motorsport, achieving a podium position in Le Mans 24 Hours 2013 before going on to win the Bahrain FIA WEC race that November. In 2014, Sébastien will continue his roles with Red Bull Racing as third driver alongside Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo, and will race in the Toyota#8 as an Official Toyota Sportscar Driver in the FIA WEC.
